Defining the goals and objectives for the Freeport Cultural Plan will be the subject of a meeting on September 25, 2017, 6:30 p.m., at Freeport Middle School. Reinholt Consulting, the Plan consultants, will conduct the meeting and present the results of the public opinion, artists, and business/organizations surveys taken throughout the community over a three-month period earlier this year. Using survey results as a basis for the goals and objectives being crafted, the consultants seek input from local citizens, businesses, and organizations to clarify the goals and objectives of the plan so they accurately reflect the values and priorities of the Freeport community.
The meeting will be hosted by Freeport Arts and Cultural Alliance, which partnered with the Town of Freeport to fund the services of Reinholt Consulting. Cultural plans, much like land use plans, provide a framework to guide municipalities in future development. As recognized by the Freeport Economic Development Corporation in its Vision 2025 Action Plan, development of Freeport’s creative economy is essential to the Town’s future economic health and vitality. The Town has designated an Arts and Cultural District which qualifies for the funding of arts and cultural projects under the terms of its Destination Freeport Tax Incentive Financing (TIF) program. The Cultural Plan will serve as a resource for all seeking to advance the creative economy and the development of arts and culture in Freeport.
The goals and objectives of the cultural plan are the critical underpinnings on which all other strategies and recommendations within the Plan will be based. Community attendance and participation at the September 25th meeting is strongly encouraged to ensure that the framework of the plan best represents the needs and aspirations of the Town. Once goals and objectives are defined, followup public meetings will be held to develop strategies and recommendations to achieve the identified goals.
