Identifying strategies for implementing the goals and objectives of the Freeport Cultural Plan will be the subject of a meeting on October 19, 2017, 6:30 p.m., at Freeport Community Library. This is a follow-on meeting to one held on September 25, at which the goals and objectives for the Plan were discussed. Reinholt Consulting will conduct the meeting. Using the results of public surveys conducted earlier this year and other research, including case studies of successful strategies from other communities, as a basis for the discussion, the consultants seek input from local citizens, businesses and organizations to further define the strategies and recommendations for the plan so they best address the needs and assets of the Freeport community.
The meeting will be hosted by Freeport Arts and Cultural Alliance, which partnered with the Town of Freeport to fund the acquisition of the services of Reinholt Consulting. Cultural plans, much like land use plans, provide a framework to guide municipalities in future development. As recognized by the Freeport Economic Development Corporation in its Vision 2025 Action Plan, development of Freeport’s creative economy is essential to the Town’s future economic health and vitality. The Town has designated an Arts and Cultural District which qualifies for the funding of arts and cultural projects under the terms of its Destination Freeport Tax Incentive Financing (TIF) program. The Cultural Plan will serve as a resource for all seeking to promote arts and culture in Freeport, advance the creative economy, and improve access to arts and culture for Freeport youth and adults.
The goals and objectives of the cultural plan are the critical underpinnings on which all other strategies and recommendations within the Plan will be based. Community Community attendance and participation at the October 19th meeting is strongly encouraged to ensure that the strategies identified in the plan increase the value, reach and relevance of Freeport’s cultural and creative assets.
