Horton hears a Who and goes on a great adventure through the Jungle Of Nool to protect all the citizens of Whoville. In the end, friendship, loyalty, family and community triumph over all. The whole family will love this tale of Horton, Mayzie, Gertrude, and Jojo’s epic journey (with a big assist from the Cat In the Hat!). Colorful, fun, energetic, imaginative, whimsical, heartwarming… this musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty has it all!
Stephen Flaherty’s score draws from several musical styles to set the mood for each memorable moment. “Oh The Thinks You Can Think” is contemporary Broadway all the way, while “Biggest Blame Fool” hearkens back to Aretha Franklin’s “Respect”. “Amayzing Mayzie” will transport you to Havana, and the Wickersham Brothers “Monkey Around” ’50s style. But the most poignant moments come from Gertrude’s plea to “Notice Me, Horton” and from Horton and Jojo in “Alone In The Universe”, which declares “A person’s a person, no matter how small.”
The cast features Tara Golson (The Cat in the Hat), Emily McKool (Jojo), Jesse Reich (Horton), Camilla Rosenfeld (Gertrude), Kim Drisko (Mayzie), Angela Libby (Sour Kangaroo), Kate Tracy (Roo), Sophie Urey (the Mayor of Whoville), Amelia McNeil-Maddox (Mrs. Mayor), David Vincent (Yertle the Turtle), Michael Millett (the Grinch)and Meghan Curran (Cindy Lou Who). Phil Chin, Chris Holmes, Daric Ebert, and Jonathan Libby are the mischievous Wickersham Brothers, and Ellen Ebert, Elizabeth Rancourt-Smith, Emily Libby, Hali Fortin, Betty Gravelle, and Alison Loughlin are the sassy Bird Girls. They are joined by Whos Paige Scala, Cadence Bourgoin, Owen West and Avery Baker-Schlenderling, with Cynthia Lunt, Jennifer Musick, Pam Tondreau, Trish Scott and others! This magnificent group is supported by Freeport Players’ Seussical Imagination Team who are creating the on-stage world of Horton and his friends and led by director Simon Skold and music director Nell Britton.
