In November 2021, a Black man was verbally assaulted and physically threatened by a white man in a racially motivated, hateful, terrorizing incident that occurred outside a Freeport pizzeria. Read details of the incident here and here. Arts & Cultural Alliance of Freeport (ACAF) stands with the Tri-Town Equity and Inclusion Coalition (TTEIC) in condemning this racist interaction.
Our mission is to use the arts and culture to create, strengthen, and connect community. This very local incident is a reminder that ongoing work is needed everywhere, including Freeport, Durham, and Pownal. We strive to confront all forms of racism, including gross, overt, and visible acts like the one at a local restaurant in town, as well as deeply rooted systems of structural exclusion. We are grateful to TTEIC for their work to combat racism and oppression, and to educate and advocate for inclusivity. We support their work by amplifying this condemnation and by stating our intention to work toward antiracist practices.
