The Desert of Maine has re-opened the dunes — for self-guided tours only — as of July 1st. They have installed 25 museum-quality signs on the dunes, and visitors can download an app for an audio tour. They have also opened their brand new Sand Museum, where they display sands of all different colors and from all different locations. On July 18, they’ll be hosting an evening of fun on the dunes to benefit Freeport Community Services, The event will include a gourmet picnic dinner provided by Gather restaurant and live music. In order to make this a socially distanced event, there are only 40 spots, so people who are interested are encouraged to purchase tickets while they are still available. Details and tickets are available on Eventbrite here.
