A Midsummer Night’s Dream

A fantastical Shakespearean comedy, with romance, mischief, and quarrels. A

simply complicated classic turned modern and unique—what more could one need?

Freeport, ME—Spring has sprung, and so has this year’s spring play. Freeport High School’s

Advanced Theatre class has spent weeks preparing for their performances of A Midsummer

Night’s Dream, an incredible comedy by William Shakespeare. This story consists of lover’s

quarrels and a play within the play. This dynamic will not be the only challenge— the language

and structure, along with the little rehearsal time, will also prove to be a challenge. When

interviewed, actor Mez Mezzapelle (Freeport senior), portraying the character Puck, said: “I

don’t think you’ll ever see A Midsummer Night’s Dream quite like this. We put lots of twists on

the story and really made it our own. I always have fun when I’m on stage performing this show,

and I think the audience will have fun watching us be complete fools!” Actor Katie Roy

(Freeport junior), portraying the character Hermia, said: “This year’s Advanced Theatre play is

something that I have never been a part of before. Learning Shakespeare is learning a new

language which you have to adapt to when learning about your character. Trying to adapt to

something like this play was a challenge, but it is so interesting to learn about.” Shakespeare’s

productions have always been dramatic and larger than life, but Freeport brings it to a whole new

level—they aren’t afraid to go the extra mile and will do whatever it takes to perform this

extraordinary show.

There are only two chances to see this exciting production—Saturday, April 30th at 7pm, and

Sunday, May 1st at 2pm, at the Freeport Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $5 and can be

purchased at the door with cash only, or are available online (https://our.show/frhs/ata22 ) in

advance with a credit card.
