Auditioning for the Musical Theater – postponed

Sing. Act. Audition? Putting it all together: A musical theater audition workshop, presented by musical theater veterans Kathleen Slack and Janelle LoSciuto, is perfect for students in grades 8-12, especially those wanting to prepare for school drama program auditions at the high school level. Topics include:

  • Choosing the RIGHT 16 bars
  • Talking to a pianist
  • The song as a monologue
  • Creating a subtext
  • Singing to a partner
  • Using intentions
  • Preparing your music
  • The audition wardrobe
  • Entering and leaving
  • Your Audition Book

Space limited: register online. Please bring water, pencil, sheet music for songs you want to sing (music optional, we will provide a song for all to learn).

About the Instructors

Janelle LoSciuto holds Bachelors of Music Performance w/concentrations in Musical Theater and Classical Voice from the University of Southern Maine and a Masters degree in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University. Janelle has been teaching private voice for more than 15 years and has experience with students of all levels and abilities. Her individualized approach ensures that each student develops a strong foundation in vocal technique. Students will learn to sing without tension, use their breath properly, transition smoothly between registers, develop a more powerful sound, and perform with confidence.

Kathy Slack has had an extensive career in both academia and theater/music. She holds a BA in Theater/Speech with a Voice Minor from Ithaca College, and a MA in Communication Studies from the University of Maine/Orono. Newly retired from teaching for the University of Maine system for over 25 years, she now devotes her time to teaching Voice at 317 Main and in her home Voice studio. Kathy works with all kinds of repertoire, and has been trained in both classical and contemporary, styles including Jazz, Blues, Bluegrass, Folk, Rock, and Musical Theater.
