Author Talk with Barton Seaver

Barton Seaver will be discussing his newest book, American Seafood: Heritage, Culture & Cookery from Sea to Shining Sea. A book for foodies, anglers, cooks, and history buffs, American Seafood is the essential guide to more than 500 species, as well as a riveting history of one of our country’s most iconic industries. This book is encyclopedic in its scope and peppered with vivid historical and culinary photographs, illustrations, and diagrams. Seaver contributes masterfully written prose for this fascinating and timely social history of our maritime nation. Seaver brings the story of America’s fishermen to life on these pages, and proudly celebrates the people, products, and places that have captivated him since childhood. Seaver is an award-winning chef and ran several highly acclaimed restaurants in Washington, DC. Following a successful culinary career, he turned to conservation as an Explorer for the National Geographic Society. He has authored several books on seafood and sustainability, including For Cod and Country and Two if By Sea. He is the Director of the Healthy and Sustainable Food Program at Harvard School for Public Health.
