Freeport High School students have been working since late summer to bring the musical Big Fish to the stage. Based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the Columbia Motion Picture written by John August, the story includes two main characters, Will (played by Elias Thomas), and his father, Edward (played by Ben Monahan-Morang). Will, a reporter, has always wanted to capture the reality of life; as he recounts all of the fantastical stories his father used to tell, he concludes that his father must have fabricated them to impress everyone around him. The evolution of the story depicts the mistrust Will feels towards his father and how his feelings change as he discovers who his dad really is. The production is inspiring, filled with touching imagery in every scene. From the sparkling costumes to sets with hundreds of daffodils, there is never a shortage of fascination.
Tickets are $5 for students and seniors and $10 for adults, available online or at the door. FHS Drama is giving this production a PG rating due to themes about death and dying.
