Freeport’s Maritime History

In “Freeport’s Maritime History in the Age of Pirates, Porters and Paddlewheels” Historian Alan Hall will focus on the importance of Porter’s Landing and its vital link to New England’s maritime economy in the period between the mast trade and arrival of the railroad. He will explore the Porter family and their salt pan, the importance of the warehouse, their shipyard and ships, especially privateers such as the Dash, the outbreak of piracy in the West Indies after the War of 1812, and Freeport sailors captured by pirates. Free to Freeport Historical Society members, $5 non-members.
