House Concert: Finn Magill and David Curley
January 31, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm$10 – $25
Friends and neighbors of the Desert of Maine are invited to a house concert at the owners’ home on 116 Dune Drive in Freeport! (As much as they’d like to host the concert in the Tuttle barn, we’ll have to wait for the restoration which will hopefully begin early next fall.)
The evening will start with a potluck at 6 pm, and then Finn Magill and David Curley will play from 7-8:30 pm. Andrew Finn Magill, an Asheville, NC, native, is an All-Ireland finalist fiddler and Ropeadope Recording artist. Multi-instrumentalist and singer Dave Curley has collaborated with everyone from Grammy award winners Moya Brennan of Clannad to Ross Holmes of Mumford and Sons. Come hear two of the most exciting young musicians in the U.S. for a night of Irish tune & song! Suggested donation of $10/person and $25/per family.
Please RSVP to Mela Heestand or to 978-394-5923. Below are bios and a clip of the duo playing. Hope to see you there!!
More about the Musicians
For twenty years North Carolina-native violinist/fiddler Finn Magill has been pursuing parallel careers in traditional Irish music, Brazilian choro, jazz and American fiddle and he has performed with everyone from grammy-nominee John Doyle to Rising Appalachia. Magill is a Fulbright fellow and has been featured on MTV, Avianca in-flight entertainment and multiple times on NPR’s The Thistle & Shamrock. His 2016 album Roots (featuring John Doyle and Cillian Vallely) debuted at number #46 on the folk DJ charts and since then he has toured internationally and headlined several Irish festivals. In 2019 he was awarded a North Carolina Arts Council Grant to make an album of original music and is currently working on an album with Dave Curley which will be out in 2021.
Dave Curley is one of Ireland’s leading multi-instrumentalists, vocalists and a champion step dancer. Hailing from Co. Galway on the west coast of Ireland, Curley has brought his wealth of talents to the largest of stages in North America and Western Europe. He has performed at the prestigious Ryman auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, recorded with Grammy award winners Ron Block, Jeff Taylor and Buddy Greene, and toured with Grammy award winners Moya Brennan of Clannad and Ross Holmes of Mumford and Sons. For 10 years, Curley has worked with the award winning traditional super group, SLIDE, headlining North America’s largest Irish festivals.
