Sparkle Weekend Winter Holiday Storytime Series

An event every day that begins at 12:00 pm, repeating until December 6, 2021

ACAF, committed to enhancing and cultivating Greater Freeport as a vibrant center for arts and culture, invites you to Meetinghouse Arts to hear stories about winter holidays during Sparkle Weekend. Children will be given art activities to do at home and are welcome to join the gel-printing art activity right after the Story Hour!

Saturday, December 4th

  • Book: Seven Spools of Thread written by Angela Shelf Medearis and illustrated by Daniel Minter
    Read by: Atiim Bomani Boykin Chenzira

Atiim Chenzira (Chen zee ra) is a Portland resident, musician, clinician, story teller, and advisory board member at Indigo Arts Alliance.

  • Book: Hanukkah! written by Roni Schotter and illustrated by Marilyn Hafner
    Read by: Jane Bradley

Jane Bradley has been a Freeport resident since 1976. She and her husband Ed have three daughters – Sarah, Alex, and Kay – all of whom attended the Freeport schools; daughter Sarah resides in Freeport with her three daughters – Savannah, Kate, and Ella Tracy – also Freeport school students. Jane, a retired Maine District Court Judge, is one of the founding members of the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Freeport (ACAF) and is thrilled with our community’s achievement of creating Meetinghouse Arts.

Kara is a Freeport resident and board member of the Arts & Cultural Alliance of Freeport (ACAF). She is a lactation consultant and patient educator who works for Maine Medical Center and the Perinatal Outreach and Education program, and is the board president of the Maine State Breastfeeding Coalition. Kara has a passion for storytelling and children’s literature and lives with her husband, Ravi, sons Bode & Eli, and dog Luna.

John is a retired endangered species biologist who helped produce the Freeport Cultural Plan, and served on the Board of Directors of the fledgling Arts and Cultural Alliance of Freeport (ACAF). Music is an important part of his life, and now he is retired, he spends a lot of time instigating music wherever and whenever he can.

  • Book: The Shortest Day: Celebrating the Winter Solstice written by Wendy Pfeffer and illustrated by Jesse Reisch
    Read by: Kara Kaikini

Meg is a 2nd grade teacher at Morse Street School in Freeport who has loved being a teacher at Morse Street School for 25 years and counting. She enjoys singing and playing violin/fiddle and has been involved in various performing groups over the years.
