The van Voorst Jazz Quartet

Led by Jan van Voorst van Beest, the van Voorst Jazz group has taken many forms over the last 20 years, with variations of jazz music and instrumentation, from organ/drums driven duos and small straight ahead groups to outside jazz with hints of the hard sounds of the 60s and 70s. In it’s current formation, the van Voorst Jazz Quartet will be performing a selection of original jazz compositions and familiar standards. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
Jan van Voorst van Beest – Drums
Jan has been a musician and drummer in the New England area for over 25 years, leading his own groups and as a sideman playing, jazz, funk, and rock. He has previously worked and recorded with numerous musicians including Rob Eberhardt Young (national recording artist on Imaginary Road and Polygram records), Curtis Clark, Oliver Lake, and Alex Foster (Miles Davis, Saturday Night Live) to name a few. van Voorst van Beest has also recorded his own work which can be found on the Ludington/van Voorst record Listening Post released in 2004.
Jason St. Pierre – Saxophones
Jason has been involved in the East Coast jazz scene from Maine to Florida for more than three decades. He was an original member of jazz legend Jimmy Cobb’s group “Cobb’s Mobb” in the late 1980’s, and has played alongside greats such as Benny Carter, Lee Konitz, David Liebman and Hal Galper. While in Maine he has been involved with Tony Boffa Music and was the altoist in the late Steve Grover Sextet, one of Maine’s true jazz icons.
Jason has led a successful jazz trio for the past 10 years.
Nick Ludington – Guitar
Nick is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and has been playing guitar in Maine since 1990. His main influences are Jim Hall, Pat Metheny and John Scofield. Nick places a premium on Jazz and improvisational music where the band members can interact and create.
Scott Keifner – Bass
Scott is a bassist currently living in Kittery, ME. After graduating from McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, he moved back to New England and has since established himself as an in-demand member of the jazz community. He has performed and/or recorded with Vinx, Delfeayo Marsalis, Bill McHenry, Matt Wilson, and many more. In addition to a busy freelance schedule, he performs regularly as a member of Sojoy, OURBIGBAND, and the Soggy Po Boys throughout New England and beyond.
