“With Two Wings” & “Paper or Plastic?”

May 7 - May 8

With Two Wings & Paper or Plastic?

Freeport High School’s Theatre Department presents a heartwarming take on a classic myth paired with a zany comedy about grocery stores— twice the shows, twice the fun!

It was only a few weeks ago that Freeport High School’s Theatre Department put on Alone, Together, the first fully virtual production put on by the department. They are back at it again, with back-to-back shorts performed by their talented Advanced Theatre students.

Each year the Advanced Theatre class puts on a spring play. Last year’s production, like many other performances across the country, was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Natalie Safley, FHS Theatre Director, “When we started this semester in two separate cohorts, I knew that we would need to produce two separate plays. I asked the students what type of play they wanted to work on. Based on that discussion, I chose a short play for each group. Both groups wanted something fun and uplifting for their final performance, and I think each play represents just that.” Fun and uplifting these plays certainly are! Ella Nigro, actress, said that “working on [the spring play] has been a really fun experience so far since we’re actually able to act on stage during the pandemic!”

These have been Freeport High School’s first in-person shows to be performed inside and onstage since the start of the pandemic, and the amount of passion that went into both is supremely evident. The first play, “With Two Wings,” is an unconventional retelling of the story of Icarus and Daedalus. In it, a young boy named Lyf must grapple with his father’s greatest secret, all while wondering what the world “out there” is like. The second show is in a very different vein, indeed. “Paper or Plastic?” is a comedy following a teen’s first job at a local grocery store. Follow Sarah as she has to deal with crazy customers and even crazier coworkers! Who knew cashiering could be such a tricky occupation?

In-person performances for invited guests only on April 30 and May 1.
Available on-demand for general audiences on May 7th and 8th! For the link to the recordings and more info, please go to rsu5.org/fhsperformingarts. For more information contact: Natalie Safley, 207-865-4706 ext. 801 safleyn@rsu5.org.
