Sandi Donnelly’s work is encaustic painting. Encaustic paint is a combination of beeswax, damar resin and pigment. The process involves painting with molten wax on a substrate and fusing with a heat gun or butane torch building up layer upon layer of color, scraping back to reveal layers adding texture, mixed media or other marks. Sandi states about her work” I am seduced by the color, the heat, the flow of wax, the smell of the beeswax and the play of light through the layers. It is a sensual holiday! I am answering the question “What Lies Beneath the Surface”. Donnelly works intuitively responding to each new mark and layer with another mark.
